This reminds me of the trend towards more violent, offensive porn in the straight industry, too. Many people within the industry are fighting against the kind of producers like Max Hardcore, whose videos routinely feature girls being throat-fucked into vomiting and breaking down into tears, dressing up like underage schoolgirls to be anally fucked in gross rape fantasies, and having Max piss into their gaping assholes before the urine is sucked out and forced down their throats.

But it sells, so...I guess the effects on the performers aren't important because we're to assume they "know what they're getting into" (I've heard this same argument for both bareback porn and violent straight porn).

I saw, on a PPV website, a studio called White Water Productions (wonder where they got that name?). It seems to be European. Anyhow, I rented one of their movies, & found it was BB, & starred both Claudio Antonelli & Lucio Maverick. Claudio was fucked BB. (I also googled the studio, & found a website under construction).

humm.... The AVN Show supposedly had 50% fewer gay firms selling product... I can't imagine that there is a HUGE demand for BB product- there is a ton of it out there.

I do not see Josh Weston's decision to do BB indicates anything. ( other than a bad business decision on his part).

At some point it would be nice to see a statement from Josh- he is articulate and witty.

If anyone can cn turn this bad PR tidal wave around a bit- he can. If he cares to do so.

um if there is a ton of it out there, doesn't that indicate there is a huge demand for it? Why else would there be a ton of it?

If no-one was buying it, it wouldn't be made.

I'm not sure why you guys keep saying that it is a bad business decision and this signals the end of their careers if they do bareback vids. Dominik Rider started out doing bb films for HDK and SX and has recently starred in films by Falcon, Mustang, Latino Fan Club and Ridgeline. He also appeared on Chi Chi's site Live and Raw. Zack Randall and Mason Wyler have both done bb scenes online. Corbin Michaels and Brent Everett both started their careers doing bb.Who is to say that Josh Weston won't do a few films for SX and then go back and do condom work? It is pretty obvious from the amount of models who have done both that their is no longer an industry "ban" on bareback performers.

About the unavoidability of bareback porn, and the megabucks this is supposed to draw in, here is a refreshing piece of news, courtesy of J.C. Adams:

http://www.gayporntimes.com/hardnews/2008/01/17/sam-dixon-retires-puts-1-distribution-up-for-sale/

NB: Dino Phillips, part of that dying business, was the one who on that same blog posted the following comment, about the video which is the topic of this thread:

"YEAH!!! That’s gonna be one HOT movie! Can’t wait to snag that one up."

Anyone who thinks it's the enemies of bareback porn (and bareback sex) who are being "ideological" should take a look at Dino Phillips' blog:
http://thesexcontinuum.blogspot.com

The July 18 entry is particularly representative.

Thanks for the update, Jerome!

It will be interesting to see if Dixon/Manning's firm is sold, or if it just folds.

Their collection of titles is probably of value . Obviously i do not know the particulars, but people rarly walk away from a thriving business.

And....if one is putting a thriving business up for sale, this is a very odd way to put up the "for sale" sign - vibrant firms have people asking to BUY.

(in an effort to sort of keep this on topic, hee, hee, hee)

Maybe our poster boy for BB, Josh Weston would like to buy it, and form WESTWORLD/Josh Weston Productions.

Let it not be said that I do not offer career choices!!

I never liked Dino Phillips as a performer in the old days. That post just seems crazy. He's all involved in AIDS projects, while making that movies that encourage one of the behaviors that causes it. I guess maybe that lets him sleep better at night. What an asshole.

Josh seems rather flip in the interview (or perhaps just sardonic). It isn't your usual porn company stage managed interview. He tends to say things that seem to be for effect in other places, so I don't know how much to take it literally. OTOH, if it is true, it's sad because I've heard from people who know him that he is an accomplished photographer, a decent carpenter, and someone well versed in a number of ares including art history.

I'm surprised that Manning/Dixon is selling. There still seem to be a lot of start ups, bareback & otherwise and some of them have been quite prolific like Afton Nils. Sam has lots of front/back of the camera experience and seemed to be well liked in the "industry", so I would have expected him to do well from a business perspective. Also, he has a distribution channel, as well as doing production. OTOH, he never really made the leap to making A-list videos independently and there are a lot of small bareback producers. Unless he has desirable equipment or studio assets, he'll really be selling his backlist, masters, and distribution customer list and there probably would be interest from one of the larger bareback companies. BTW---Dino Phillips looks like hell; I can't imagine anyone casting him in video, period.

As for KaiHua's comment--were talking norms here not anecdotes. The guys like Zach Randall or Corbin Michaels started out with small, obscure companies and then made it big and obviously "signed the pledge", never going back to bb. That seems to be a common pattern (Josh Vaughan is another example of this). In contrast, Jarod Steele started in bb, made some mainstream vids as "Carter Longway" and has gone back to bb, without further mainstream video work.

The guys who have gone back & forth tend to be minor players working for marginal mainstream companies like Bacchaus (which itself has done bb off & on for years)--Alan Gregory, for example. The exceptions seem to be guys who work for Chris Ward on occasion. I always figured that RSS would be the first mainline studio to go bb. Chris has never been outfont about safesex in the same way as the Titan guys or LaRue.

In general, tho., once guys go bb, esp. after careers at A-list studios, they don't get A-list work again and they often seem to have
lackluster careers in bb--Jason Tyler (who looks awful, esp. considering his other career as a legit model) is a good example. The long-term bb guys tend to be former B- or C-list players like Patrick Ives or Steve Tuck. Jeff Palmer is probably the highest profile person to have a bb career and as long-time posters know, Palmer is easily one of the most erratic personalities around and he seems to have had long gaps in his bb career. I assume he's probably an erratic worker, as well.

I do not see Chris Ward going into BB, his kink sells quite well, thank you.

The BB stuff that is out there might as well be caled "bare bones" too- frequently poorly shot, maybe a "theme" and never a plot.

I can certainly understand the attraction on the financial side- shoot it ultra cheap, get as much as possible wholesale ( if they bother) and sell it HIGH to the consumer.

I will not comment on the Dino Phillips blog other than to say that if he has any genuine concern about AIDS, STD's or actor's self esteem, his actions speak louder than his ill-advised, ignorent and un substantied words.

I resist getting too political, and this is NOT the proper forum to debate such issues. But I will say this:

AIDS and other STD's are currently TREATABLE-(there is no cure) and is available primarily to those who have health insurance.

Frequently , many people in the adult or legit entertainment industry lack such insurance, and have little ability to pay for expensive medication.

Sorry to rant.. I do care... To close this out, I do not think BB is a good career choice for talent at any level-- at the start, midpoint or end of a career.
