I've only seen the first few episodes of Showtime's "Queer As Folk" and stopped watching because I thought the leads -- with the exception of the boy -- were so inferior to their English counterparts. In my opinion, Stuart -- the Brit's Brian -- played the dysfunctional yet charismatic love god with an edgy cynicism and subtle vulnerability. The Brian we have here never seems to get beyond the nasty sneer of a bitter ex-Calvin Klein model -- Gale Harold is just not talented enough to pull out all the shades possible with this character and comes across way too reptilian ... Then there's Michael. The Brit's Vince came across as the perfect boyfriend -- albeit saddled with some low self-esteem. But Hal Sparks? He's so clunky and just plain bad that his pretty face and tea-cup eyes can't help me from feeling he's Mickey Mouse reincarnated in human form -- and a very heterosexual Mickey at that ... Anyone out there agree? Disagree? Or feel that my opinion might change if I tuned to some of the more recent episodes? Let me know ...

Matt, check out the reviews here and you'll find most viewers(myself included)think the acting is somewhat laughable for the first few episodes. The acting does seem to be improving-or maybe I'm just getting used to it. I recommend that you keep watching and enjoy it on its own, not as a comparison with the Brit version. Hopefully the viewers who compare QAF2 with QAF1 keep watching past episode 10 which will be here within a few weeks. After that point there will be no QAF1 episodes to keep comparing it against.

Disclaimer-I haven't seen the original QAF episodes, only the Showtime series.

This is program I really wanted to dislike. It hasn't worked out that way. There is lots to critcize-but after a discussion of rimming on the opening show I was hooked. As a review in the NEW YORKER put it "...for now it seems fair to say that if a thing is worth doing then it is even worth doing badly."

Well, I have to say I like it! No, the acting will not receive an Emmy, but just think how miraculous it is that such a show is even on the air!! I guess only a gay audience is watching it but so what? Kinda nice to have our own show isn't it? I think the plots are improving (Michael's struggle with staying in the closet at work) and Justin's struggles with a homophobic father. Haven't most of us been there?

I think much more than a gay audience is watching this dribble.

There is no acting on this show. It is terrible. Brian is laughable as the sex god. The Michael sketch is good and probably hits home for a lot of guys working in the str world. The fat cunt at work who set him up with his female intrest was my favorite in his sketches. I know a girl just like her.

The other two guys, the flambouyant gay and the p.c. porn guy I haven't even got a opinion on yet. They haven't seemed intresting yet.

The kid has turned into a little girl really fast too.

If being gay was this boring I would go str8 :)!

I think, texastop, although
it's none of my business, rather
than say, If being gay was this
boring I would go str8 :)! , that
you might say something like this:
If QaF is this boring, I should
turn off the T-V or change the
channel!

I think it's a show that shows more
promise with each and every episode.

I also suspect that there's so much
derision about it within our own ranks
is because it is hitting too
close to home in too many instances.

And, for the most part, if you want
superior acting, you don't watch any
T-V, except old movies, some mini-series,
and some specials!

;)

I guess texastop must live some highly adventurous life, if od'ing on GHB, having a baby, falling in love, getting your car smashed, having your car painted with gay epitaths, having a lovers father kick you int he stomach, getting a promotion at your job, having to take your mother to the hospital from exhaustion, coming out to your best friend and then parents, is too boring and arent thingas that happen in his oh so exciting gay life, maybe you shoudl go back to watching temptation island. Jesus, its a fucking TV show, you have a remote, use it. I wish people like that would be str8, it makes us looka lot better.

~shudder~

It's like they're reading my DIARY! Except for the part about confusing "epithets" with "epitaphs," of course.

Johnboy,it's Jeremiah's way of throwing a tantrum. Come to think of it, that's the only thing he does in these forums. I can see him foaming in the mouth with non-sequitors...of course he needs attention! Enough said.

Interesting if I am shooting for attention, which isnt the case at all eyegames, you are so fucking stupid that you devote a whole post to little ole me. I have no problem if you want to bring it on little man, but when I have the time I will be more then happy to bitch slap a meaningless cunt like you.
As for Johnboy, I in no post have EVER edited anything I have ever sqaid. It is a most of the peoples way on here to be a pussy about what they said. I treat this as a conversational style, and dont use spell check, if you are so anal that that is all you can argue about, then you arent worth the energy to respond to anymore, if its such a problem for you dont read it, because I wont change.
