First let me say that what he did to Brian was wrong. That said he made several demands in order for Justin to stay ~ #1 Justin could no longer go to gay bars. The kid's under 21; it's illegal!!! #2 Justin is never to see Brian again. Can you blame him for that? His son is a minor. Brian is a 29 year old adult. Most parents (I hope) would feel the same regardless of their child's orientation. #3 Justin is not to talk about his lifestyle. This is iffy. The boy's gay and dad's gotta deal with it. However Craig identifies the gay lifestyle with gay sex. Justin has been in his dad's face (and his mom's too) about what he and Brian do sexually. And don't forget that one sided phone conversation of Brian's Craig heard. On the whole I think Craig is a good and loving father. He didn't kick Justin out; Justin left of his own accord.

If 17 year old Justin were dating a 29 year old woman, his father's reaction wouldn't be negative at all. Though his mother's reaction might be more negative.

I was surprised Justin's father did not pursue charges(sex with a minor) against Brian or that the reasons for this not occuring were not discussed.

PChuck--

Not only do I agree, but if Justin had started dating Daphne (which, I get the feeling, is what his mother and father were probably secretly hoping for,) none of this turmoil would've occured. But then, Justin's story would have all the appeal for QAF addicts of watching paint dry.

The argument from Justin's Mom for not going to the police was, "Oh no you're not. Then EVERYONE will know" Daddy seems to fear this as much as Mommy. A teenage guy with an older woman rarely has stigma for the guy. Take a look at the movie "Summer of '42" for comparison.

They've made it clear that Justin's Dad has severe homophobia - he's so threatened he first denies direct evidence, and when that fails, he becomes mentally unhinged. Where's all that anger and fear coming from? Mom claims they've both known or suspected for years, but here, too Dad is in denial. If the show continues long enough, I could see Justin's Dad going far enough that a court requires him to get therapy as part of probation on an assault charge, and in therapy he finally deals with his fears for his own masculinity. Well that's how I would write it, anyway.

I would write the story so that Justin's dad has to come to terms with HIS own homosexuality and winds up at the bar one night!
