The defense attorney for a man accused of having sex with a 14-year-old boy he met on the Internet said the boy made up the story after seeing a similar storyline on the television program Queer as Folk, according to The [London] Daily Mirror. Anthony Gray, a married Oxford University graduate, is accused of having sex with the boy after meeting him in a chat room. Gray’s attorney, James Mason, said the boy’s story is “almost identical” to a storyline on the British version of Queer as Folk. “It starts off with a 29-year-old man meeting a 15-year-old boy who is sexually inexperienced,” Mason said. “They go into a room, lie on the bed, kiss and undress. His account is almost identical to that.” However, the boy denied the allegation. “I have seen four or five episodes of Queer as Folk,” he told the court. “It is not true that my evidence is based on the program—it is based on fact.” The boy said he is questioning his sexuality, although he told the jury he is straight. Gray allegedly pretended to be a 22-year-old single gay man when he met the boy in a chat room. He sometimes phoned the youth from a pay phone so that his pregnant wife, who is a clinical psychologist, would not find out. “From time to time I go to the Internet chat sites because I think that I am bisexual. My wife does not know,” Gray told police. “The boy wanted to talk to a gay man about what it is like to be gay.” Gray, who describes himself as an evangelical Christian, told the court that he and the youth decided to meet to talk about the “struggle” of being gay. He denied that they had sex in a hotel room, saying they only talked and watched television.
